Operation of dioptre defects

The return of sharp vision for people with dioptres was formerly impossible.  The implantation of modern intraocular lenses (multifocal, trifocal, and fakic intraocular lenses) enables everybody to see without glasses and contact lenses. The team of OFTEX ophthalmology clinic has great results in the field of dioptre defects surgery. We can remove more than 20 dioptres and we can operate both eyes at the same time. We can also implant the latest toric trifocal lens AT LISA toric 909MP (manufacturer Carl Zeiss) and we are the first who implemented this method in the CR.

Entrust yourself in the hands of our ophthalmology surgeons and enjoy life without glasses!

We can return sharp vision to all people dependant on glasses or contact lenses due to dioptre defect.  Modern medicine also enabled the return of vision to people who formerly could not undergo such surgery (e.g. with high refractory defects, with keratoconus, etc.). Suitable operating method for the removal of dioptres is selected based on age, type, and the amount of dioptres, individual eye anatomy, and the wish of a patient.

Eye dioptre defects

Short-sightedness (Myopia)Krátkozrakost

If the eye is too long or the refrangibility of the optic system is higher (in comparison to the length of the eye), the beams converge in front of retina, we talk about myopia.  Blurred vision falls on retina.  This defect affects up to 30 % people. The achievement of sharp vision is provided by spectacles with diffusive glass or contact lenses. Surgery includes laser operations or the implant of intraocular lens.

Long-sightedness (Hypermetropia)

Dalekozrakost

When the eye is too short or the eye refrangibility is too small, the light beams converge behind retina, we talk about long-sightedness.  Blurred vision falls on retina similarly to short-sightedness.  This defect is corrected with spectacles with connected glass or contact lenses.  Surgery includes laser operations or the implant of intraocular lens.

Astigmatism

Retina represents an important refractory part of the eye optic system.  It shall ideally be identically curved in all axis.  If it is curved more or less in some axis, we talk about astigmatism.  Certain low level of astigmatism is physiological and does not require correction.  Astigmatism can be combined with myopia and hypermetropia.  It is treated by the application of spectacles with cylindrical glasses, toric contact lenses, and laser operation of cornea or the implantation of special toric intraocular lenses.

Presbyopie

Prespbyopia is physiological eye defect which affects most people after the age of 40.  It is the cause of the lens elasticity reduction and gradual loss of natural eye ability to quickly focus on the object in close vicinity.  The defined fact results in problems with reading text of normal size in the focal distance up to 50 cm. The defect can be removed by using reading spectacles or by surgery, e.g. the replacement of the lens with artificial multifocal or trifocal intraocular lens.

Intraocular surgery

The interventions are based on the implantation of artificial intraocular lens directly in the eye.  The surgery method called refractive lensectomy replaces your natural lens with artificial lens with calculated dioptres.

Artificial intraocular lenses can:

  • Remove the dioptres solely in one distance (usually long), i.e. monofocal intraocular lens,
  • The removal of long-sightedness and short-sightedness dioptres – so called multifocal intraocular lenses,
  • Focus on all distances, long and short (reading) and also in distance 70 cm (work on computer) - i.e. trifocal intraocular lens AT LISA tri 839MP or its toric trifocal intraocular lens AT LISA toric 909MP - the latest item on the market which also resolves astigmatism.

The implantation of trifocal intraocular lens is suitable for people over 40. The implantation of so called fakic intraocular lens is recommended for younger persons when one extra lens is implanted in the eye.  It removes the long-sightedness dioptres and the patient sees sharply in short distance due to the accommodation of the lens.

OFTEX ophthalmology clinic has been using intraocular lenses of the highest quality solely from renowned manufacturers Zeiss and Alcon.

Summary

We will find an optimum solution for the removal of dioptres.  Comprehensive and detailed pre-surgery examination and the use of the latest examination devices, methods, and material will ensure minimum complications and quick healing after the surgery.

The prices of the procedures differ according to selected operation method and type of selected intraocular lens, the prices are available in our pricelist.
